Robbery Suspect Shot And Killed In North Highlands
NORTH HIGHLANDS (CW31) - A suspect wanted for a string of gas station robberies overnight was shot and killed by Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputies.
At 4:50 a.m. Saturday, the suspect, who was wearing a motorcycle helmet, walked into a 7-Eleven on Watt Avenue and Elkhorn Boulevard in North Highlands, motioned to the clerk he had a gun in his hooded sweatshirt, and demanded money. The clerk handed him the cash drawer and he left, according to Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputy Jason Ramos.
The suspect then allegedly robbed two Shell gas stations: one on Watt Avenue and Antelope Road in Antelope and one on Watt Avenue and Walerga Road in Elverta.
A Sheriff's Deputy located the suspect, who was riding a motorcycle. When the suspect refused to pull over, a chase ensued. The chase finally ended in the Washburn Way in North Highlands when the suspect was knocked from his motorcycle.
"During that pursuit, he locked up the brakes on his motorcycle and was struck by the squad car. He got up starting to run and dropped a cash drawer along the way," said Sheriff's Deputy Jason Ramos.
The suspect motioned like he was reaching for a weapon in the pocket of his sweater. That's when deputies fired at the suspect, who was struck and died.
Deputies say the suspect, in his 20s, fits the description of robber who targeted three separate gas stations overnight.
Witnesses say they heard four shots.
Investigators say the suspect acted alone.
