Gas Shut Off To Thousands In Discovery Bay Due To 'Structural Damage'
DISCOVERY BAY (CBS13) - PG&E crews are in Discovery Bay working to restore heat to thousands of customers, one home at a time.
A company spokesperson says the cold weather caused "structural damage" on Sunday night, so the company had to shut off the heat for 6,200 homes.

The damage happened while temperatures dropped to near-freezing levels. Crews managed to restore gas to 200 homes on Sunday, but progress is moving slowly because a technician needs to manually turn on the gas at each home affected.
"PG&E needs to turn it on; it's the only safe way to do it so we're going to be coming to your door, knocking on doors and canvassing making sure that we're going to every home that's impacted," said company spokesperson Tamar Sarkissian.
If you live in Discovery Bay and you're not home when a technician arrives, they'll leave a door hanger with a number you can call to get someone out right away.
The company reminds customers they should always ask to see the technician's identification when they come to the door.
