Garage Of Vacant Rancho Cordova Home Catches Fire Overnight
RANCHO CORDOVA (CBS13) – A vacant Rancho Cordova home's garage caught fire overnight, but crews were able to extinguish it before the fire spread to the rest of the home or neighboring structures.
Sacramento Metro Fire units were dispatched to a report of visible flames from a vacant home at about 3:20 a.m.
Units arriving to 3361 Romford Way found a well-involved garage fire.
"The garage was already collapsing as the first unit was arriving," said Metro Fire Battalion Chief Bill Turner.
Engine crews worked together to douse the fire and protect neighboring houses, while truck crews performed ventilation and searched for occupants, Turner said.
The fire was contained to the garage, with no extension into the house or attic. No other structures were damaged by the fire.
The fire was completely extinguished within just 22 minutes from initial dispatch. A total of 24 firefighters worked to save this house, with no known injuries. No occupants were found inside and firefighting efforts saved an estimated $80,000.
The cause of the fire is considered suspicious and is under investigation. Metro Fire arson investigators were on scene but have not yet determined the cause. Anyone with information regarding this fire is asked to call the Metro Fire Arson Tip Line at (916) 859-3775.
