Galleria Cleanup Team Not Getting Paid On Time
The clean-up at the Roseville Galleria is creating jobs for hundreds of people. Now, some of those workers say they're having trouble getting paid on time.
Alvin Finney says he waits too long for a paycheck, and sometimes he's not getting hired at all, even if he's the first one standing in line at the Galleria.
"5:30 a.m., first come, first serve," says Finney.
Since last Tuesday, Finney says he has been at the front of the line at the Galleria everyday, hoping they need extra people to clean up after the inferno. But Thursday morning, he claims he was the first to show up and also the first to go home.
"They went back to line today and picked people," Finney explains.
Finney works for Command Labor, also known as Command Center, a staffing agency that helps laborers like Finney find temporary jobs.
At first, Finney says that the agency made big promises, and he would be paid the same day he worked a job. But now, it's a different story.
"We're not getting paid at the end of our shift, they just decide to switch it up, they say now we're gonna start paying weekly. That's not their policy, it's day to day," Finney said.
But a Command Center manager told CBS13 that it's not their fault, but Belfor's, the restoration company that hired Command Center to find the laborers. The manager points the finger at Belfor for paying weekly instead of daily, and also choosing who works that day.
"I'm not happy with it; I like my money, I like to get paid," says Finney.
Finney claims some of his co-workers aren't getting paid at all. But, a Belfor manager said that the company has nothing to do with the Command Center's employees getting paid, which is what they hired Command Center to do – find laborers and pay them.
Finney says that he will back to the Roseville Galleria on Friday, and hopes that whoever picks out the workers for the day will do it fairly.
