Freight Train Derails In Southern California Desert
LITTLEROCK, Calif. (AP) -- A freight train has derailed in the rural high desert of northern Los Angeles County.
County fire Inspector Matt Levesque says the Union Pacific train derailed about 1:25 p.m. Wednesday in the Antelope Valley community of Littlerock.
Levesque says more than half of the train's 63 cars are reported derailed and 14 may be carrying an unspecified hazardous material.
Firefighters and a hazardous materials crew are trying to determine if any cars are leaking.
Levesque says no injuries have been reported. Some homes near the site are being evacuated, but Levesque says the area is sparsely populated.
