Former NFL Player Convicted Of 19 Criminal Counts Stemming From Natomas Robberies
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A former NFL player arrested for several Natomas home invasions and a sexual assault has been convicted on 19 charges, including forcible oral copulation, armed robbery, kidnapping, first degree burglary, and false imprisonment.
Keith Wright was arrested on August 29, 2011 after he robbed and sexually assaulted a victim during a home invasion on Kokomo Drive in the north Natomas area on August 21.
Investigators say Wright entered the home through an unlocked door, robbed the victim at gunpoint and sexually assaulted her. Detectives were able to link that crime two other home invasion robberies that occurred on July 21 and August 8 in 2011. In each case, Wright threatened the residents at gunpoint and demanded money.
A DNA sample taken at the scene of the sexual assault linked Wright to the crime. It matched a sample taken in connection with a prior conviction.
Wright will be sentenced on November 16.
Wright played at Sacramento City College in 1999 and was an All-Big 12 defensive end at Missouri. He was drafted by the Houston Texans and signed to a $925,000 contract in 2003, but then bounced around NFL practice squads the next several seasons, last playing for the Detroit Lions in 2006.
