Former California DMV Employee Pleads Guilty To Fraud

SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — A woman who worked at the California Department of Motor Vehicles has pleaded guilty to taking more than $23,000 to give commercial driver licenses to 14 people who had not passed their tests.

An Orange County district attorney's statement says 38-year-old Michelle Carbajal pleaded guilty Wednesday to 42 felony counts including altering public documents and fraud. She's scheduled to be sentenced June 6.

The statement says that Carbajal worked at a DMV in Fullerton from 2008 to 2010 and altered the records of 14 people who had been referred to her by outside parties.

The drivers hadn't passed any of the tests safety tests, including proper use of specialized brakes, pulling double trailers and being qualified to drive big-rigs and other commercial vehicles.
