Former 49er's Roseville Restaurant Reopens After 5 Month Renovation
ROSEVILLE (CBS13) - Sports fans in Roseville will have a new restaurant and bar to watch the NFC championship game Sunday.
Former 49er and Super Bowl champion Dan Bunz has reopened his restaurant.
There were hot rods in the parking lot; and, more importantly, beer, food and sports inside.
"We used to come here a lot for lunch," one loyal customer said.
Saturday's reopening of Bunz & Co in Roseville has been a five month renovation in the works.
New paint, floors, seating areas, kids' room and menu are just a few additions the Roseville native has added to his sports bar and restaurant.
"The whole patio is new. Upstairs we opened it up. What was storage is now a games room for kids," said Bunz.
Originally opening in 1983, there were much needed upgrades after 30 years of service.
"It was just really run down to the ground," said Bunz.
The two-time Super Bowl 49er champion is hoping the re-opening will be as big of a hit as his game saving tackle in Super Bowl XVI, known to the sports world as "The Stop."
San Francisco 49er greats such as Joe Montana and Jerry Rice have all eaten a meal or two at the restaurant. However, Bunz says with this renovation, this new restaurant has a lot more to offer the Roseville community.
"It's kind of a collage for sports," said Bunz.
Bunz' former NFL buddies, like Oakland Raider great Freddy Biletnikoff, dropped in to support the re-grand opening.
"It's a whole different look. It's repainted and they've got all kinds of sports memorabilia all over the place," said Biletnikoff.
Bunz, who is now a physical education teacher at Sutter Middle School, says the restaurant makeover is something he feels he owed to his hometown of Roseville.
"I've donated to the community. I work in the community. I love this place that's why I came to the community to build this place. Roseville is a great place to live," Bunz said.
