District Investigates Foothill High School Employee About Unauthorized Physicals
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Students and parents can't believe it, but Twin Rivers School District officials confirm it: One of their employees at Foothill High School was allegedly illegally conducting sports physical exams on more than a dozen students.
"That's just not right," one student said Tuesday.
"Oh man, that's really bad," a parent said.
The physicals are required by state law for students planning to play organized school athletics. But it's also required that qualified medical personnel administer the exams.
The mystery employee was not only not authorized to carry out the exams, but district administrators say she was charging the students and pocketing the money.
"Yeah, she was charging $20," a female student said.
Police now want to know what went on during those exams and how many medically unqualified and unhealthy students might have been cleared to play sports.
A Twin Rivers spokesperson released a statement saying in part: "Our district is very concerned about this accusation because it could endanger the lives of students."
The school employee was said to be away on "personal business" on Tuesday. The school district said it learned of the allegations last week and is conducting an investigation. It also said parents would be refunded for the exams.
