Foothill High School Staff Member Arrested For Giving Unauthorized Physicals
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A Foothill High School staff member who gave unauthorized sports physicals to students at the school was arrested Wednesday.
Margo Santana, 47, is charged with practicing medicine without a medical certificate and obtaining money by false pretenses, both misdemeanors.
Santana gave the physicals to 20 students at Foothill in August and collected $20 each for them, according to one student at the school.
District Investigates Unauthorized Physicals At Foothill
Santana, who also goes by Margo Moore, was a health assistant at the high school, but the physicals can only be performed by doctors, physician assistants or nurse practitioners. The state requires all high school sports participants to have physicals.
The Twin Rivers Unified School District Police Department originally investigated the incident. The Sacramento Police Department made the arrest Wednesday.
Twin Rivers Assistant Superintendent Tom Janis said on Thursday that Santana resigned Sept. 12.
Santana was booked into the Sacramento County Jail on Wednesday night on $50,000 bail. She's scheduled to appear in court on Friday afternoon.
