Food Network Star Guy Fieri Stops In Modesto, Stockton Restaurants For Show
MODESTO (CBS13) — Several Modesto and Stockton restaurants served a Food Network star over the past few days.
Three Modesto food spots were interviewed for a Food Network show by Guy Fieri, but they can't talk about it. The Commonwealth even posted on Facebook that it was closing for a "super-secret mission"
But people figured out it was for "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives."
Fieri was spotted in Stockton, taking his red Camaro to the Green Papaya food truck where they serve up Lao and Thai food.
Residents say the feature could give a boost of foodie tourism to Modesto.
"I'm excited for Modesto to get some love. We have good restaurants here. We have good things to do here," said Ben Bonnett.
Fieri visited the Commonwealth Pub downtown and Bauer's 66 and a Half Restaurant in McHenry Village. Then there is the food truck Food Fix. The truck won't be serving up its popular Porkstrami Pretzel or its mac and cheese this week. The company posted on Facebook that the truck is getting repaired. It's normally found in the Warden's Outlet Center parking lot. For the past eight months, it's brought a lot of business to the corner of Ninth Street.
"Place an order. It's usually a pretty good wait. At that time, people come in and shop. Or they eat lunch and come in afterwards, so yes, I've actually made sales off of people eating here," said Sean Koen.
But without national publicity, he says the restaurants do just fine.
"Roughly 80 people come here a day for sandwiches off the truck," he said.
