Folsom Wounded Veteran Run Attracts Thousands
FOLSOM (CBS13) — Many people laced up their running shoes on Monday to show their support and appreciation for local veterans in Folsom.
The 5th annual Memorial Day Wounded Veteran Run attracted people showing love to service men and women by raising tens of thousands of dollars for national and local veteran-support nonprofits.
Organizers are grateful to the thousands who showed up.
"The first year, they started with 89 runners and it's grown to over 2,000," Aaron Hutchinson said. "Often the veterans are wounded and after they've served they unfortunately are forgotten. And this is way top bridge that gap and celebrate them and bridge awareness to our veterans as they protect of freedom across the nation."
Some are running in support, while some vets are determined to make it across the finish line in wheelchairs. Just about every war campaign is represented.
"I appreciate everybody being out here and showing support for everybody that we lost," said U.S. Army veteran Tyler Hebert.
Also crossing the finish line is Marine Corps reservist Lt. Col. Matt Swindle. This is his way of saluting his fellow warriors' commitment and courage.
"This is just an opportunity for us to give back to the community and meet the people that support us and that's what makes it special," he said.
