Floating Meth Lab Discovered On Delta With Two Men Dead Inside
SOLANO COUNTY(CBS13) — A floating meth lab was discovered on the Delta on Monday, with two men dead inside.
Gary Lee Cooper, 72 of Concord, and James Eugene McRae, 49 of Martinez, were found dead on a houseboat on Spoonbill Creek, about six miles south of Rio Vista by Contra Costa Sheriff's deputies on Monday.
Investigators found items near the two bodies that indicated they had used and possibly made methamphetamine.
When investigators searched the boat, they discovered an odd odor and left the boat and were concerned about the danger of chemicals associated with making methamphetamine. Those investigators were taken to the hospital as a precaution and were fine.
They secured the boat overnight until they could find the source of the odor.
The next day, Drug Enforcement Administration agents joined the investigation and discovered the rest of the manufacturing operation in the boat. They secured the evidence and towed the houseboat to shore.
