Flash Flood Warning In Effect After Heavy Rain Moves Through Camp Fire Burn Scar Area
CHICO (CBS13) – A Flash Flood Warning is in effect in Butte County after heavy rain moved through the Camp Fire burn scar area on Thursday.
5:35 p.m. Update:
Evacuations orders have also been issued for Esquon Road from Mesa north to the end of Esquon in Durham. The Honey Road area and lower Skyway are also under evacuation.
The Butte County Fairgrounds have been opened for flash flood evacuees.
5:15 p.m. Update:
As it continues to storm in Butte County, some people have become stranded in their vehicles. Cal Fire said that the Swift Water Rescue Team has conducted several rescues along Honey Run Road due to flooding.
Evacuations are in effect for the Honey Road area and lower Skyway. Highway 99 is closed at Neal Road.
Additionally, three homes were evacuated and residents were saved by boat.
Officials said 50 vehicles were trapped at one point in the Butte Creek Canyon area, forcing people to remain in place. The road was not completely flooded, but officials said the water was high enough that they could not go anywhere.
A utility crew was also stranded in the Butte Creek Canyon area, Cal Fire said. The crew was brought to safety by the Swift Water Rescue Team as well.
2:45 p.m. Update:
NWS Sacramento says they've received reports of debris flows and mudslides near the burn scar area.
Flooding is also occurring on several roads in Butte County. Highway 99 was closed in both directions early Thursday afternoon due to flooding. NWS Sacramento says there have been reports of stranded motorists. The road has since reopened.
An evacuation order has been issued for Honey Run Road for the 200 block of Skyway to Horse Run Lane.
Forecasters say streams flowing out of the burn scar area are likely to cause flooding out to places near Chico and Durham.
The Flash Flood Warning will be in effect until 9:15 p.m. Thursday as more heavy rainfall is expected to roll through.
