First Significant Storm Of 2015 Set To Roll Through Sacramento Region This Weekend
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — The first significant rain in 2015 is expected in the Sacramento area, with more than 3 inches of rain expected in the region.
Storms will roll through starting later Thursday night. The peak of the first wave of the storm is expected to roll through during rush hour in Sacramento, between 4 and 6 p.m. Winds in the valley are expected to come from the south at 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.
Between Thursday night and Monday, 1.50 to 3.50 inches of rain are expected, while the foothills are expecting 4 to 6 inches, and in to the Sierra 6 to 8 inches are expected. Snow levels are expected to stay around 7,500 feet.
Urban and small stream flooding is possible with the rainfall expected over the weekend, but flooding is not expected to be as bad as the December storm. That is because the leaves that clogged drains and gutters are long gone for the most part.
The storm comes on the heels of one of the driest Januarys on record in the Sacramento region. In what's normally supposed to be the wettest month of the year, hardly any measurable rain fell.
