Firefighters Discover Pot Growing Operation During House Fire

CITRUS HEIGHTS (CBS13) -- Smoke and fire came from a Sacramento home early this morning as firefighters battled an electrical fire and stumbled onto a marijuana growing operation.

Fire crews were called out to a home on Expedition Way and Manorside Drive early Tuesday morning to battle a fire that started near the electrical box and had worked its way inside the home. But during their operations, they also stumbled on several pot plants.

A search of the home turned up several rooms set up like greenhouses complete with over 200 marijuana plants, growing lights and a ventilation system.

Investigators say the fire started because someone had bypassed the electrical box, which is common at homes with pot growing operations.

No suspects have been arrested; however, two unidentified men who are connected to the home arrived and, after a short conversation with officers, got into the back of a squad car. Police say the men don't live at the home, and have been tight-lipped on who the men are. One appears to be in his early 20s, and the other could be in his late 40s or early 50s.

Officers have indicated that they are searching for other people connected to the home.
