Fired Caltrans Tech Pleads No Contest To Assault
STOCKTON (AP) — An embattled Caltrans technician recently fired over accusations he falsified safety tests on California bridges and freeway structures has pleaded no contest to an assault charge involving his ex-girlfriend's granddaughter.
The Stockton Record reports that Duane Wiles entered the no contest plea earlier this week as part of deal with San Joaquin County prosecutors, who reduced the original charge of contact with a minor for a sexual offense.
As part of the plea deal in the San Joaquin County case, Wiles will serve 66 days in jail, three years of probation and will have to pay a $180 fine.
He has not been charged with a crime over the safety tests, but Caltrans documents say he admitted to faking the data.
