UPDATE: Crews Gain Ground On El Dorado County Fire
SOMERSET (CBS13) – A wildfire burning near Somerset in El Dorado County briefly prompted voluntary evacuations on Tuesday but was under control by evening.
The fire broke out just after noon near Buck Bar and Sandridge roads. Flames have blackened 15 acres.
There were 25 homes threatened, with voluntary evacuations in the Bucks Bar area. They were lifted at about 3 p.m. and the fire was 50 percent contained, according to Cal Fire.
"Some of the homeowners had done an excellent job creating defensible space around their homes and it clearly made the difference between them returning to their home or a pile of ashes since the fire literally burned right up to their homes," Cal Fire's Robert Little said.
The CHP and the El Dorado County Sheriff's department were helping Cal Fire with traffic control in the area.
A section of Mt. Aukum road was closed temporarily.
Crews will be monitoring hot spots throughout the night.
