Firefighter Killed, CHP Officer Hurt In Accident On Interstate 5
COTTONWOOD (CBS13) – A Northern California firefighter has died and two others hurt including a California Highway Patrol officer after a series of weather-related accidents on Interstate 5 near Redding on Wednesday.
According to the Record Searchlight, a truck slid off the Interstate around 6:15 a.m. just south of Anderson.
The truck slid down an embankment and hit the victims, who were on scene checking out two other accidents.
The driver said his truck started skidding after he changed lanes to avoid another car that was spinning out. The driver was not cited or arrested. But the investigation is continuing.
The firefighter who died was a volunteer for the Cottonwood Fire Protection District.
The names of the victims were not immediately released.
The wreck closed southbound Interstate 5 for several hours.
