Fire Destroys Sacramento Auto Body Shop

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- Authorities are still investigating the cause of a major fire that ravaged a Sacramento business.

Flames were reported in the Levan Auto Body Parts Shop near Stockton Boulevard after midnight Saturday and quickly engulfed the whole building. Parts of the roof had already collapsed by the time firefighters arrived, forcing crews to take a defensive stance against the blaze and keep it from spreading.

"Because of the material, the fire went up quick, flames shooting out of the roof and spread to the nearby building," said Sacramento Metro Fire Department Christian Pebbles. "It looked like a bowl of spaghetti, the water was a foot deep and we had hose lines everywhere."

The businesses' car seats and polyurethane foam supplies proved to be powerful fuel for the flames, Pebbles said. More than 60 firefighters spent hours on the scene extinguishing the fire, which caused millions of dollars in damage.

Fire investigators are keeping all possibilities in mind while searching for the cause of the fire.

"From accidental to arson it's all a possibility," Pebbles said.

No injuries were reported.
