Fire Crews Begin 3rd Day Fighting Nevada Wildfire

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Fire officials say they're planning to send a plane up to survey the size of a northern Nevada wildfire that remains 15 percent contained.

North Lake Tahoe Assistant Fire Marshal Mark Regan tells KRNV-TV crews worked overnight to fight the blaze, which they estimate has burned more than 7,000 acres. It's expected to be fully contained by Saturday.

No deaths or injuries are reported, and evacuations have been lifted. There were no active flames near residential areas Wednesday evening, but officials said dozens of homes continued to be threatened.

Winds that were blowing smoke more than 350 miles southeast to Las Vegas have eased up, although an air quality advisory is still in effect Thursday morning.

Investigators believe the fire may have been caused by an illegal burn that had been smoldering at a private residence since the weekend.
