Final Fixes On Auburn Water Break Likely Won't Start Until Spring
AUBURN (CBS13) — A water pipe exploded overnight in Auburn, soaking a city street and closing it for hours longer than expected.
The Placer County Water Agency says the pipe burst at around 1 a.m. on High Street between Auburn Folsom Road and Pleasant Avenue. City officials are concerned it could happen again.
The sounds of jackhammers and heavy equipment replaced the quiet in a neighborhood southeast of downtown Auburn. The burst pipe had flooded the street, leaving it too dangerous to drive on.
The break only affected a small number of businesses, but no homes. But for Jim McAfee at Image Awareness, it's a disruption his business can't afford.
"My office girl could not get in," he said. "She got stopped at the barriers and couldn't get in, so I said just take the day off."
The water agency says it maintains about 600 miles of World War II-era pipelines in the county.
Even though High Street will be open after the pipe is fixed, the actual final construction won't be started until possibly spring.
