Father Gains Custody Of 11-Year-Old Suspected Of Beating Disabled Mother
ELK GROVE(CBS13) - A father is fighting for custody of his 11-year-old son after the boy was accused of beating his disabled mother.
Emerging from a Sacramento County courtroom hiding his face Monday, the father had just learned from a juvenile court judge that he was getting temporary custody of his son.
CBS13 asked him about the decision, but he said "No comment; don't touch," before getting into his car and driving away.
Investigators say the 11-year-old boy was arrested at his elementary school last week for allegedly beating his own mother so badly that she was hospitalized.
Elk Grove police say the young boy lived in the home alone with his 51-year-old, severely physically disabled mother and became her unofficial caregiver.
Officers say the little boy severely beat his helpless mother on multiple occasions, one time using an extension cord.
"She did have injuries to her arms, to her legs, to her back and other areas that we believe were a direct result of her son causing the abuse," Officer Chris Trim said.
The boy faced his felony charges in criminal juvenile court Monday.
The boy's biological sister from Southern California was also in court pleading with the judge to release the boy into her custody. The judge denied her request and she denied to answer our questions as to why the boy shouldn't go with her father.
"None of your damn business," she said as she left the courthouse.
