Fatal Crash Turns Into Homicide Investigation
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (CBS13) – What started out as a fatal car crash has turned into a homicide investigation in Sacramento after a man crashed his car into a home.
The accident happened Thursday night around 11:00. Thong Khousakoune, 49, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say Khousakoune was driving fast enough to plow through two metal fences and into a bedroom of a home on 15th Avenue and Franklin Boulevard.
At first, it appeared to be a deadly crash, but after seeing his injuries, investigators say he was murdered.
A witness told CBS Sacramento Khousakoune was bleeding from the side of his head moments after the Honda CRV crashed into the home. For now, investigators will only say he had upper body trauma, injuries consistent with a homicide.
Police believe Khousakoune was hurt, and possibly in an attempt to get away from his attackers, sped off before losing control and crashing through the fences and hitting the home.
"Obviously you just don't drive through a fence if you're not injured or trying to get away," said Sacramento Police Sgt. Norm Leong. "Those are some of the theories we're working with and looking into."
Officers believe whatever happened may have started a block east of the crash near 14th Avenue and 30th Street because of the speed the small SUV must have been going to crash through both metal fences.
Officers are still investigating.
