Vigil Held For Man Reportedly Shot By Body Shop Owner

(CBS13) - A family mourns after a brother was killed. They say a simple car repair turned into a deadly confrontation.

Investigators say a business owner gunned down one of his own customers, and even called 9-1-1 before he opened fire. That business owner is now being held as a suspect.

The suspect is still not giving his side of the story, but the family says they know exactly what happened moments before shots rang out.

"He was my best friend, you know. I talked to him almost every day. And he was planning on coming over that night," said the victim's sister, Natasha Gonzales

It was a very emotional night for the sisters of a murder victim.

"This Anthony…when he took my brother he took a part of all of us, and we'll never get that back," said Natasha.

Sacramento investigators say 46-year-old Anthony Vigil, the owner of an auto body shop in Gold River, is accused of gunning down one of his own customers, 26-year-old Michael Gonzales.

"My little brother was introduced to him through his fiancé," said Pamela Gonzales, a sister of the victim.

The victim's family says Michael went to Vigil's shop to get his car repaired. It was a simple fender bender.

"My brother was really getting tired of the run around," said Pamela.

Seven weeks later, they say Vigil kept making excuses as to why the car wasn't fixed.

"My brother wasn't going to let him take his car or his money. He wanted his car back," said Pamela.

And then on the night of October 6, there was a possible resolution.

"Finally got a hold of him and they were going to meet up," said Pamela.

Natasha had just spoken with her brother a few hours before the meeting.

"And he said he would call me later and that was the last time I would talk to him," said Natasha.

Shortly after 10 p.m., emergency dispatchers received a call from a man saying he was going to shoot trespassers at his business. A few minutes later, Michael was dead with a gunshot wound to the upper body.

"And for it to be something so small and so petty you know," said Natasha.

Tonight, a candlelight vigil was held as the family tried to raise money for Michael's funeral.

"He was too young and had too much life and he was too good of a person. And to see him there and to see what this man did to him and he get to sit in a jail cell and probably not even cares," said Natasha.
