Family Hopes Billboards Lead To Capture Of Killers

TRACY, Calif. (CBS13) – A grieving family has turned to giant wanted posters to try tracking down the suspected killers of their son, hoping to put an end to a months-long manhunt.

The family of Kevin Prater, who was 20 years old when he was killed, raised the money to erect billboards in Tracy and Stockton bearing the faces of James Stancampiano and Emmanuel Mendoza.

The two men, along with Edgar Canseco, allegedly killed Prater during a botched robbery nine months ago. Canseco was arrested the next day, but investigators have not been able to locate Stancampiano and Mendoza.

"We're hoping our billboards will prompt somebody in the area to speak about anything they know about the situation," said Lakisha Moreland, Kevin's aunt. "We're hoping all three of them get life [in prison], or death."

The Prater family helped get the case on national TV shows and crime tracking websites, and they hope to place more billboards across the border, where detectives believe the suspects may fled.

"The wanted pictures have already hit the newspapers in Mexico," Moreland said.

The family also plans to add to the Crime Stoppers cash reward and keep the existing billboards up for months.
