Family, Friends Hold Vigil For Bicyclist Killed In Sacramento Hit-And-Run

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — As Sacramento Police continue their search for a suspect who struck and killed a bicyclist on Tuesday night, the victim's friends and family gathered for a vigil.

"He always put a smile on everybody's face," said Tina Cowan "Everybody liked him, he was friendly, he helped everybody."

It's an emotional night for friends and family who of the man the all call "Junior," knowing the suspect is still on the loose.

"At least have a heart and think about what his family is going through," Cowan said.

Sacramento Police say a driver in a silver Cadillac Eldorado with tinted windows was seen in surveillance video fleeing the scene.

Jim Brown with Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates says this is Sacramento's third fatal hit-and-run in just nine months.

"This is the kind of news that makes people think twice about riding a bike," he said.

Brown hopes new laws may help prevent tragedies like this in the future.

"There's legislation that would extend the Amber Alert system to include hit and run collisions involving fatalities and serious injuries," he said.
