Fairfield Police Open Fire On Suspect
FAIRFIELD (CBS13) – Fairfield Police officers opened fire on a suspect early Friday morning, the department confirms.
The incident happened at a motel along the 3300 block of N. Texas Avenue around 4 a.m.
Police say that windows at the motel were reportedly being broken. Once at the scene, officers saw a suspect running from the scene. Officers gave chase, but the suspect pulled out a handgun and fired at the officers -- forcing the officers to return fire.
The suspect -- who has been identified as 30-year-old Fairfield resident Jerry Andrews -- was hit by a gunshot in the leg, police say. The officers weren't hurt in the incident.
Police noted that the suspect's injuries aren't life-threatening. He had to be taken to the hospital after the shooting.
A second man, 23-year-old Aaron Minor, was discovered to be an associate of Andrews and was also arrested. Andrews faces charges of attempted murder of a police officer, possession of drugs for sale and conspiracy; Minor faces possession of drugs for sale and conspiracy charges.
The two officers involved in the incident are now on paid administrative leave, per standard procedure after an officer-involved shooting.
