Crash involving semi-truck leads to fire, downed power lines in Fairfield
FAIRFIELD – Firefighters have stopped the spread of a fire that started after a crash in Fairfield early Tuesday afternoon.
The crash involved a car and a semi-truck and resulted in the semi knocking down power lines, the Fairfield Police Department said, though it was unclear if the crash or the downed lines were the cause of the fire.
The fire started along Peabody Road, near Vanden Road, and grew to burn 30 acres, the Fairfield Fire Department said.
Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) said the collision resulted in more than 9,200 customers across Vacaville, Fairfield and Dixon being left without power. Power was expected to be fully restored by 5:15 p.m., PG&E said.
Two people suffered minor injuries in the crash, and both were hospitalized, the fire department said.
No evacuations were in effect as a result of the fire.
Peabody Road is expected to remain closed from Water Works Road to Vanden Road into the night.
