Fairfield Fire Victims To Officials: Who's Responsible For Dry Brush Along Freeway?
FAIRFIELD (CBS13) - Victims of Tuesday's residential fire in Fairfield are hoping to get answers from officials two days after the disaster.
More than 200 firefighters from Cal Fire and several surrounding counties battled the fire on Marigold Drive.
The grass fire began along Interstate 80 near the North Texas Street exit before hopping the soundwall. According to firefighters, the wind caught embers and threw them onto homes' rooftops.
The fire destroyed five homes, damaged 10 others, and forced hundreds to evacuate.
Dozens of residents met with city officials Thursday afternoon, wanting to know who was responsible for trimming the dry vegetation behind their homes that contributed to fueling the fire.
However, city officials were hesitant to answer.
"Some of the people here have been calling the city to let them know 'hey, ya'll need to get back here and cut this grass,' but we didn't get no response," said Jessie Shields.
