Ex-Teacher Sentenced For Explicit Texts

NAPA, Calif. (AP) -- A former substitute teacher in Northern California has been sentenced to 90 days in jail and three years of probation for sending sexually explicit text messages and photos to a teenage student.

A Napa County Superior Court judge said Friday that 41-year-old Linda Vass will not have to register as a sex offender, noting that she is undergoing therapy and has no prior criminal record.

Vass was arrested in November after police said she sent numerous sexually explicit texts and photos to a Napa Valley High School student. She pleaded no contest in January to distributing lewd material to a minor.

The Napa Valley Register reports that Vass sobbed during her sentencing and apologized for her actions, telling the court she was "now a shell of a person."
