Elk Grove Woman Sentenced 40 Years For Killing Estranged Husband

ELK GROVE (CBS13) -- An Elk Grove woman who killed her estranged husband in July 2009 was sentenced Friday to 40 years to life, District Attorney Jan Scully announced.

Jennifer Ann Dalton, 42, shot and killed Craig Dalton in the garage of their Elk Grove home. She was convicted of second-degree murder in a retrial. The jury in her first trial in May acquitted her of first-degree murder but couldn't reach a verdict on the lesser charge.

Dalton called 911 after the shooting and waited for police to arrive. Her lawyer, Linda Parisi, argued that she acted in self-defense and was emotionally abused by Craig Dalton.

Craig Dalton, 39, was shot twice in the back and once in the side.

According to media reports, Jennifer Dalton had threatened to kill Craig Dalton because of their failed marriage and strained financial situation. She also reportedly said he told her about other women.
