Elk Grove Signs Raise Ire Of Residents, But Code Enforcement Staff Too Small To Keep Up
ELK GROVE (CBS13) — Elk Grove landowners are furious over a new type of graffiti and blight littering the streets—signs posted all over public and private properties.
Residents say a lot of wannabe entrepreneurs are placing advertisements without getting permission on private and city property.
For many, it's an eyesore. At this week's city council meeting, one fed-up resident brought in a bunch of signs he collected throughout the city. But he was disappointment to learn there isn't enough code enforcement staff to keep up with the signs.
Ivan Silva says he had no idea there was anything wrong with placing advertisements for his business anywhere he wanted.
According to Elk Grove Code Enforcement, a landowner's permission must be granted before a sign can be posted on city or private property. And even then, there are strict conditions as to where and how those signs can be displayed.
City leaders and residents are frustrated with business owners like Silva, but residents still want the city to ask.
