Elk Grove Neighbors Concerned Expanding Cracks Could Become Dangerous Potholes
ELK GROVE (CBS13) — Elk Grove neighbors are concerned about expanding cracks turning into potholes on a major street.
On the surface, it doesn't look that bad, but the closer you look, motorists' concerns become clear.
Laguna Boulevard in Elk Grove is one of the most heavily traveled roadways in an already quickly expanding city.
"At every stop there's like 100 cars waiting at the signal," said resident Eleanor Hopkins.
With the increased traffic comes a growing concern about expanding cracks, especially where Laguna meets Babson Drive.
Some are worried the cracks can lead to a bigger problem—deep, unforgiving potholes.
"I haven't been personally aware of those cracks until just this week," said Richard Shepard with Elk Grove Public Works.
City officials became aware of the problem when people began sounding off in the Elk Grove News website and social media.
Shepard says there's no need for people to be concerned about the expanding cracks, because it's normal. Because of the public outcry, we asked Shepard what the city plans to do about it.
"There's nothing real urgent about it but since it seems to be gathering a lot of anxiety from our residents about it we'll probably get out there soon," he said.
Shepard says his department will eventually seal the cracks.
