UPDATE: Charges Dropped In Elk Grove Election Sign Vandalism Case
ELK GROVE (CBS13) – The case has been dropped against an Elk Grove mayoral candidate accused of spray painting a competitor's campaign sign.
A witness called police in August after seeing someone with a bag over their head spray painting a sign belonging to Sophia Scherman, who was running for a city council position and possibly receiving the mayor's seat. Police told CBS13 the suspect's car was registered to LaWanna Montgomery, a candidate running for the same office.
Montgomery denied the allegation during an interview with CBS13's Nick Janes, and said she was the victim of a conspiracy involving council members who wanted her to drop out from the race.
Elk Grove police told CBS13 that charges against Montgomery were thrown out.
Gary Davis was elected as Elk Grove mayor.
