Elk Grove Leaders Propose Water Park Next To New Downtown City Hall
ELK GROVE (CBS13) — Elk Grove city leaders have plans to make a massive water park the center of its proposed new downtown.
Elk Grove Mayor Gary Davis is making waves by pursuing a plan some might say is off the deep end.
The sprawling, 20-acre aquatic center would feature water slides, a wave pool, an Olympic-sized pool, and a diving platform. It would be next door to a new city hall.
"You can probably splash and hit city hall in the future," Davis said.
It's not the first time Elk Grove has seen unusual ideas for its civic center. A master plan drawing from 2011 resembled a city hall with tentacles.
"We're not afraid to dream big," said Davis. "A good artist will come out and throw a lot of designs on a palette, and we pick one that fits."
The tentacles didn't stick.
But the civic center pool is one that parents we spoke to are approving. The two community pools are already overflowing with kids.
"Elk Grove is a growing community," said Cliff Dorton. "It has lots of activities and swimming is a big part."
