Elk Grove Firefighters Rescue Dog Trapped In Storm Drain
ELK GROVE (CBS13) - It was an amazing animal rescue Wednesday morning as firefighters and Elk Grove police pulled a little dog out from a storm drain.
"The dog went into the drain. We didn't know if it was injured at the time," Elk Grove police Sgt. Mike Iannone said.
Visibly shaken, the dog had been stuck for several hours.
Around 4 a.m., a woman passing by saw the dog and tried to help it. Police say that when she picked up the dog, it frightened her. So she put the dog down, at which point it ran and fell into the drain.

Resident Tim Teal also tried to help rescue the animal.
"I went down in (the drain) and seen it. I got scared 'cause I thought it was going to bite me. It turned around and went back down the pipe," he said.
"It nipped at (Teal's) hand. He was able to reach in but the dog nipped at him," said Iannone.
Using a wire and air from the fire truck, crews were able to pull the pooch to safety.
"It's not every day you get to help out nature for the most part," said Iannone.
The dog is being cared for at the Sacramento SPCA on Florin-Perkins Road. He was cleaned and shaved because his coat was covered in mats, causing him discomfort.
The search is still on to find the owner. The dog was not wearing any tags and did not have a microchip or a collar.
If not claimed in 10 days, the dog may be put up for adoption.
