Elk Grove Dutch Bros. Employee Rushes To Help Shooting Victim
ELK GROVE (CBS13) – A shooting on a Sacramento freeway sent a driver to the hospital, and some quick thinking by a Good Samaritan helped the victim as emergency responders were arriving on scene.
The white sedan had its back window blown out from a gunshot. It pulled into the Dutch Bros. coffee shop on Elk Grove Boulevard for help.

"We saw a car pull up on the cameras," said Dutch Bros. employee Stephanie Shaffer. "We didn't really know what was going on yet, and a couple customers saw that they were freaking out and came and told us someone got shot."
Shaffer was working the early morning shift and stopped what she was doing.
"I grabbed some rags, I ran out, and they had flannel like pushed up against him," Shaffer said. "And I put rags under the flannel and kept pressure on him."
Shaffer says while helping out a total stranger, she was trying to stay calm.
"I was so scared, I was just trying to keep it all together," Shaffer said.
And so were the four people who pulled up in the car.
"All his friends were kind of running around, they didn't know what to do. The girls that called 911 were scared, no one really knew each other, so we were just trying to keep our focus on him," Shaffer said.
According to police, the car was shot on southbound Highway 99 near Florin and Mack roads. The driver, who didn't want to go on camera, says one of his passengers was shot after somebody pulled up from behind and open fired around 2 a.m. The driver then exited the freeway looking for help.
"I suppose that that's a benefit of having a 24-hour establishment right near the highway," said Dutch Bros. customer Rick Keltner.
Police say the man who was shot has non-life threatening injuries.
"I just wanted to help people and make sure that they are ok, so when I saw that he was hurt … kind of an instinct kicked in."
