Elderly Woman Loses Home Of 42 Years To Fire

PLACER COUNTY (CBS13) – An elderly Placer County woman has lost her home of 42 years after a fire broke out overnight.

A passer-by spotted flames shooting from the home on Amoruso Way and Sunset Boulevard West in rural Placer County early Monday morning.

Firefighters arrived to find flames shooting from the home. As they doused the home with water, the roof collapsed.

Luckily, the homeowner was out of town visiting friends. She returned after getting word about the fire. She has lived in the home for 42 years and was planning on moving out on Wednesday.

Her neighbors are trying to do what they can for her.

"As a friend, to see someone go through this, you walk out of your home and you can't do anything for them. Just to be there for them now, just to console them," said neighbor Lori Eckroat.

Fire fighters are going through the home removing charred items. They do say they were able to save a section in the back of the home.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
