Man convicted of selling fentanyl-laced pills that killed 20-year-old in Folsom
PLACERVILLE – A man has pleaded guilty in El Dorado County court to selling blue M30 oxycodone pills laced with fentanyl that caused a 20-year-old woman to die in 2022, prosecutors said on Friday.
Kamal Babatunde Yusuf pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and will be sentenced to 15 years to life on May 23.
Prosecutors said Yusuf sold the pills to 20-year-old Gillian Murray and her boyfriend in a Taco Bell parking lot in Folsom on May 6, 2022.
Murray and her boyfriend went home and took one pill each. Murray's boyfriend woke up and found her unresponsive and not breathing.
When medics arrived, she was pronounced dead. Prosecutors said toxicology results determined she died from acute fentanyl poisoning.
During the investigation, prosecutors said Yusuf used Snapchat under the alias "Mr. Sneeze" to conduct sales, where he even told buyers to "start with half" in order not to overdose.
During a search warrant at his home, detectives found thousands of fentanyl-laced M30 pills.
Prosecutors said that Yusuf may have overdosed prior to his offense but continued to sell the substance.
Yusuf was also seen making calls to his brother in jail, instructing his brother to delete data from his phone.
