EDD Offers Help At State Capitol, But Doesn't Tell Anyone About It
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — EDD staffers made themselves available to help at the capitol on Wednesday, but they didn't tell anyone they'd be there.
While representatives from the Employment Development Department were more than happy to help anyone who came by, CBS13 cameras found only two people taking up their services.
Those two people didn't get word from EDD, instead their assemblymember told them.
A search of EDD's website, as well as its Facebook and Twitter accounts show no mention of Wednesday's attempted outreach.
"It's just ridiculous to not be able to get answers," said Catherine Suttle, one of those two people.
She is still waiting on her claim approved in August after being laid off.
"It's frustrating when you pay into a system for 10 or 11 years," she said. "As long as I've been a resident here, my employers paid into it, and I'm not getting the benefit that I paid into."
EDD is still not giving concrete numbers about how many people are in limbo, instead relying on vague words like "few and "some."
The two people who got help on Wednesday were promised a phone call by Friday, but Suttle thinks EDD can do more.
"Set up something at the Convention Center, something at a hotel," she said. "Let people come in like today. Get a computer set up and hammer out the problem."
