Earlier Sales Extend Black Friday To Begin Thanksgiving Day

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - This year's Black Friday comes early as some stores will open Thanksgiving Day for eager shoppers, but not everyone is excited for the even earlier sales.

Most malls like Sunrise won't open until midnight on Friday, but stores like Sears will open their doors at 8 p.m. Thursday.

"I like to be lazy after turkey; I'm not going anywhere," said Angela Wilson.

However, she won't be sleeping in on Friday, that's for sure.

"Four o'clock in the morning, my husband goes one way, I go another," she said.

At the Westfield Galleria in Roseville, the employees are bracing themselves for midnight madness.

"Chaos, lots of chaos. Lines, miles and miles outside the door, they trample everywhere," said Chris Baffoni, who works at a toy store.

"I don't know that I would want to wake up at midnight for a pair of Jordan's," Finish Line employee Trish Roche said.

At Walmart, they're ready for shoppers. On Thursday their first round of sales begin at 8 p.m. For the first time, if anyone is in line between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. they're guaranteed that door-buster deal on electronics.

However, as shoppers are getting ready to head to Walmart, some employees are getting ready to head out on strike. Employees are fighting the retail giant for better pay, cheaper benefits and more hours.

"I can't speculate what will or will not be happening; but I can tell you, we are prepared to bring the best Black Friday to our customers," said Amelia McLear, a Walmart spokesperson.

Despite talks of a possible strike, Walmart support manager Linda Cicinella believes they are prepared for shoppers this Black Friday.

"We'll get through it. We'll get through everything; we always do," she said.
