Drag Bingo Reaches $100,000 Milestone In Sacramento Fundraising Effort
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Feathers, wigs and a game of bingo.
It's called drag bingo, and it's game on in Sacramento as a fundraising party for those in need.
Wild doesn't begin to describe this bingo party Grandma may not approve of.
Men dressed in sky-high pumps, skin-tight corsets and perfectly hairsprayed up-dos with names like Rusty Nails and Do Me More call out the numbers.
"My boy name is Paul and I work in a cafeteria for the state of California," More said.
And after work every day, his alter ego comes out for fun.
"I'm very proud to be in American and get have the freedom I do what we want to do," he said.
And pure intentions. His game rakes in serious money for serious causes like domestic violence awareness to AIDS research.
Hundreds play for dozens of charities, many with no roots in the LGBT community.
The idea didn't start in Sacramento. It started in Seattle and boomed in places like New York, then took off once a month at Hamburger Patties in Midtown Sacramento until it closed.
Thursday's game is a celebration, where the diverse players and queens finally reached the $100,000 mark, and there's more where that came from.
Because it's just more fun when the callers are in costume.
