Domestic Violence CEO Critical Of NASCAR

(AP) -- The National Network to End Domestic Violence addressed an open letter to NASCAR this week critical of the sport's stance on Kurt Busch after he was accused of domestic assault on an ex-girlfriend.

Busch was suspended two days before the season-opening Daytona 500 after a Delaware judge ruled he likely assaulted Patricia Driscoll in his motorhome in September at Dover International Speedway. He lost two rounds of appeals on the eve of the Daytona 500 and was suspended three races.

Kim Gandy, the organization's president and CEO, wrote to NASCAR chairman Brian France this week and expressed her "deep concern regarding your organization's position on domestic violence."

She wants NASCAR to "follow the lead of other major sports organizations and work toward ending all violence against women." There is a petition on the group's website that urged NASCAR to take a stronger stance against domestic violence.

Busch, who remains on indefinite probation, has denied Driscoll's allegations.
