Dog Rescued From Sweltering Car In Rancho Cordova

RANCHO CORDOVA (CBS13) -- Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies arrested a man Monday for allegedly leaving his dog inside his sweltering car.

The pit bull puppy was found inside a BMW parked at Hagan National Park, where temperatures were in the triple digits.

"You consider the interior of the car obviously it was probably close to 115 to 120 degrees in there," a police spokesman told CBS 13.

The dog's owner, Howard Simon III, faces felony charges for allegedly locking the puppy in the car while he enjoyed a July 4th celebration inside the Rancho Cordova park.

"Our officers were contacted by people who saw this pit bull puppy on the floorboard of the vehicle looking like it needed some help. Our officers were directed to the car smashed out the window," the spokesman said.

"I believe she's very lucky to be here," said Lesley Karrene of the SPCA.

Simon is out on bail, but refused to talk to CBS13.

The puppy, which is doing well, will remain under the care of the SPCA.
