Dixon Adding 150 New Green Jobs
DIXON (CBS13) - A new green manufacturing plant is bringing about 150 new jobs to Dixon.
The trucks from Altec Inc. offer lower emissions, reduced fuel use and a quieter work environment. But folks in Dixon might be focused on a different benefit.
"We're very excited about the number of jobs that are going to be created here," said Lee Styslinger, CEO of Altec. "We anticipate hundreds of jobs ultimately being impacted by this facility."
Alabama-based Altec is expanding its Dixon facility, building its green "bucket" truck in this new plant.
PG&E has already ordered 300 of the trucks, used to reach power lines.
The difference with the green truck is that the bucket lift is battery-powered, meaning crews don't have to let the truck idle all day long while work is being done.
"We take all of that idling offline," said Dave Meisel, PG&E's director of transportation. "In our case we had 200 in place last year and we took almost $700,000 in fuel out of our budget in 2012."
The new plant goes online in the middle of May. Altec says it also has orders from other utility companies for the green bucket truck.
