Dirt Bike Rider Run Over By Officer After Accident

NORTH HIGHLANDS, Calif. (CBS13) – A man is being treated for serious head injuries after he was thrown in front of a police cruiser when he crashed on a neighborhood street.

The 20-year-old victim, whose identity has not been released, was making a turn in the intersection of Brock Drive and Holiday Way when he lost control due to excessive speed and was ejected off of a motorized dirt bike Wednesday afternoon.

The man was not wearing a helmet, authorities said.

The accident carried the victim in front of a Twin Rivers Police Department patrol car, which was unable to stop before striking the victim, say authorities.

The bike had been reported stolen in Trinity County and neighbors said the man was often seen riding the bike in the area, according to California Highway Patrol Sgt. Kelly Cardoza.

The bike was not legal to drive on the street, Sgt. Cardoza added.

The victim is being treated at Mercy San Juan. His condition has not been released.
