Father Of 3 Dead, 2 Arrested After Shooting In Rancho Cordova
RANCHO CORDOVA (CBS13) – A man is dead and two people are under arrest after a shooting at a Rancho Cordova school yard late Saturday night.
According to Lisa Bowman with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, Rancho Cordova officers were called to the 10700 block of Ambassador Drive around 10:45 p.m. after getting numerous calls about gunshots in the area.
At the scene, officers found that a 25-year-old man had been shot. The man was taken to the hospital, but later died.
Detectives believe that the shooting stemmed from some sort of argument the victim had with some other men at a school along Ambassador Drive. The man and a friend were allegedly confronted by three other men, with the ensuing argument escalating to the fatal shooting.
Later Sunday evening, detectives announced that two young men - 18-year-old Kavon William Cry and 19-year-old Omar Lee Talley - had been arrested in connection to the case. The were arrested on charges of murder, with detectives noting that the victim and suspects did not know each other.
Authorities are still looking for the third suspect.
Family has identified the victim as 25-year-old Marquail Hayes, a father of three. A vigil was held Sunday evening to remember Hayes.
"We all have prayer and the healing that the mom is going to need is going to be both spiritually and emotional healing," family friend Sarah Watson said.
No motive for the shooting has been identified at this stage of the investigation, detectives say. Anyone with more information about the incident is asked to call detectives at (916) 874-5115.
