Deputies: Placer County Olive Oil Maker Killed By Son
PLACER COUNTY (CBS13) — A well-known olive oil maker was killed on his peaceful Placer County ranch by his son, Yuba County Sheriff's deputies said on Friday.
Carlo Yandolino's son was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.
Yandolino picked olives and pressed olive oil at his Newcastle estate, but his peaceful home turned into a crime scene Thursday morning when deputies say they found him brutally murdered in the driver's seat of his truck.
Deputies say his own son, Robert Yandolino, shot Carlo in the head, then struck one of Carlo's workers with a rock and took off. Robert surrendered after a daylong manhunt.
Roy Ludz says his neighbor never spoke of his son. He was, however, passionate about his olive oil—Monte Vista Ranch Olive Oil. He says at 58 years old, his friend wanted to dedicate his life to being the best olive oil maker around.
The company's website says Carlo and his wife Rebecca moved in 10 years ago, both with a love for their 350-year-old olive trees.
Deputies say they still don't know what would have motivated anyone to kill Carlo Yandolino.
