Delta College Cameras Not Installed After Five Reported Sexual Assaults In Two Years
STOCKTON (CBS13) — In the wake of the latest sexual assault at San Joaquin Delta College, CBS13 has learned that promises to install extra security cameras on the campus have been slow going.
Women attending Delta College are worried about more than their next test as police investigate yet another sexual assault on the campus.
This time, officers report the attack happened inside Cunningham Hall, just before noon on Wednesday.
Investigators say the suspect ran up to the woman in a stairwell, grabbed her backside and her chest. She would fight him off, and the suspect would flee.
This attack is the fifth incident like it in the past two years.
"We've increased staffing, we're working on additional cameras, and upgrading our emergency phones district wide," said Delta College Sgt Robert DiPiero.
But what about the cameras?
"We've been adding cameras, and we've been upgrading as it's been going on," he said. "We've It goes through a process—getting those funds, getting them allocated, getting the equipment ordered. It goes through a normal chain."
Students are hoping that process is sped up.
"We're trying to come to school to learn," one student said. "I don't want to be scared to come to school."
